Thinking of Joining The Committee?
Our u3a Leeds needs a Committee to keep the organisation running smoothly: this is an outline of what is involved. Any members wishing to know more can ask anyone on the current committee.
TIME COMMITMENT
As a member of the committee you would need to attend:
• The AGM in September (ideally)
• Committee meetings, when possible – these are held monthly or thereabouts
• General meetings when possible – these are held fortnightly on Tuesday afternoons
Time spent outside meetings would depend on whether you choose to take on other duties within the committee.
BASIC DUTIES
As a member of the committee, you would participate in the discussions and decision making at the Committee meetings.
At the General meetings you would help with setting up the room before the meeting and clearing up afterwards (NB the caretaker puts out the furniture). You might also help with taking money and checking membership on the door, or greeting new members and making them feel welcome.
OTHER DUTIES
These would very much depend on what role you might choose to volunteer for; the Committee Job Descriptions document lists, in some detail, what people currently do – but tasks can be swapped between roles to suit individuals.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Being a member of the Committee means being a Trustee of the u3a Leeds charity, which carries certain legal responsibilities. Information about what this means can be found in the u3a Leeds Trustee Code Of Conduct. This includes information about the indemnity insurance cover that the Third Age Trust provides for us as protection, both individually and as a board, provided we follow our rules and their guidance. Our rules are laid out in our Constitution.
Any or all of these documents are available on request from the secretary at Email: secretary@u3aleeds.com
